Innovation in Healthcare Technology Workshop

Casablanca – Morocco
21 – 24 February 2010

Innovation in Healthcare Technology Workshop

Overview
Healthcare is a vital field that concerns every citizen and community. Accordingly, governments care for this field in order to preserve their valuable human resources. Governments achieve this goal by dedicating a big share of their financial resources, employing scientific potentialities, and utilizing technologies to support healthcare frameworks. Developing countries face challenges to balance healthcare costs with quality. Based on this fact, this workshop will focus on two themes that are affordable and applicable to resolve the complex equation. These two themes are: hospital automation and telemedicine.

The first theme concerns with the efficient hospital managements and performance management methods. This dimension can be achieved by applying effective managerial practices and indicators that are utilized in powerful information management system and efficient performance management framework. Information management system ensures the integrity and validity of the applied managerial practices and provides better management for assets, patient’s records, human resources, etc. Such a system maximizes healthcare quality and minimizes operational costs and efforts whatever the affiliate that deploy it. Performance management framework doesn’t only monitor of the performance of each hospital activity against preset targets, but also provides proactive alerts for decision makers to deal with any low performing unit.

The second theme concerns with telemedicine. Telemedicine is a rapidly developing application of clinical medicine where medical information is transferred through telecommunication medium for the purpose of consulting, remote medical procedures or examinations. Telemedicine benefits are not limited to ease of access, convenience, quicker/correct diagnostics, safety, less anxiety, more empowerment, but there are many other benefits. The workshop emphasizes on cooperation between telecommunication services providers and electronic healthcare services providers as such cooperation can reveal new investment opportunities for all involved parties.
